Our Mission: Farm Sanctuary was founded in 1986 to combat the abuses of factory farming, advocate for institutional reforms, and encourage a new awareness and understanding of farm animals and the benefits of plant-based living.

Farm Sanctuary has rescued and provided refuge for thousands of survivors of the cruel and exploitative animal agriculture system. Today, at Farm Sanctuary’s Watkins Glen, New York and Los Angeles, California sanctuaries, you will find hundreds of rescued animals—each an ambassador whose story is inspiring compassion for farm animals everywhere. Today, you can help us continue telling their stories, meeting the daily needs of our rescued residents, and coming to the aid of more animals in need.
